Inside the Stone Circle
Inner Circle Access tours at Stonehenge provide the experience the standard visit does not — walking among the stones, standing inside the circle, touching the sarsen and bluestones, and viewing the monument from within rather than from behind the perimeter fence. Inner Circle Access is available only before opening hours (approximately 6:00–7:30 AM) or after closing (approximately 6:00–7:30 PM, seasonally adjusted), when the monument is closed to general visitors. The groups are limited to approximately 26 people, and the atmosphere — standing inside the circle in the early morning or evening light, with no crowds — is profoundly different from the standard daytime visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book Inner Circle Access?
Through English Heritage or through tour operators who hold allocated slots. The access is limited and sells out months in advance — book as early as possible.
Can I touch the stones on the Inner Circle tour?
Yes — Inner Circle Access allows you to walk among and touch the stones. This is the only way to do so.
Is Inner Circle Access worth the extra cost?
If the experience of standing inside Stonehenge matters to you — yes. The standard visit keeps you approximately 10 metres from the stones. The Inner Circle puts you among them.
